Hello from Roy
It's that time of year again where everyone is getting excited about opening up their cottages and enjoying the outdoors. I hope that everyone had a great winter and that you were able to enjoy the activities Buckshot Lake has to offer in the colder months.
It has been a very busy past six months for me — as many of you know, I was elected Ward 2 Councillor in North Frontenac. Your support is greatly appreciated. I won't turn this newsletter into a municipal government column, but you are more than welcome to send me an email with concerns, or ask me a question at the upcoming AGM.
Your board members met on April 22nd and we have some ideas we hope will interest you. We are also looking for your help with some of these ideas — details below.
I hope to see many of you during the summer around the lake. Remember to enjoy yourselves while respecting the environment.

AGM
Our Annual General Meeting has been scheduled for July 29th, 10am–12pm at Clar-Mill Hall in Plevna. Please come out to hear what the BLA has done and what we are working on. We are planning on having guest speakers from both North Frontenac and Addington Highlands councils.
We may be looking for a new executive member to be elected to the board. If you are interested, please let us know — elections are held at the AGM.
Membership
As always, membership is key to a successful Lake Association. We had just over 70 members last year; we would like to see this increase. Your membership fee of $30 does so much for the lake. One key expenditure: buoy markers on the lake. The BLA executive would like to thank Bob Haynes for continuing to keep boating on our lake safe. The executive is still looking for a volunteer to help him with the buoys.
There are many ways to submit payment, such as directly paying on our website. It only takes a couple of minutes. If you are aware of any new residents on the lake, please promote the importance of the lake association.
Bass tournament / Social event
At our last board meeting we all agreed it would be nice to reinstate some type of social event to help build community on Buckshot Lake. One idea is a catch-and-release bass tournament. For this to work we need help with planning, and someone to provide a location on the lake. All food and cooking equipment will be provided by the lake association. If you are interested, or if you have other ideas, please send an email.
Photo Contest
The photo contest has always been a popular activity. We will continue the tradition for 2023. Thanks to Donna Crome and Russ Brown. Winners will be announced in the fall newsletter and on our website.
Important information
North Frontenac has received a grant from the province for assistance with cleanup from the Derecho last May. The township will be accepting brush and yard waste free of charge from May 15th to November 1st, 2023 at the Plevna, 506, and Mississippi waste sites.
Outdoor fires in North Frontenac are only permitted from 7pm to 7am, April 1st to October 31st. Always check the burn ban status for updated information.
At the time of this email, the lake buoys have not been placed in their locations. We are hoping to have them in place by the end of the week.
Be Wake Aware: Wake from boats at certain speeds can damage wildlife nesting grounds, cause shoreline erosion, and disturb docked boats. Slow down and bow down when close to shore and in channels. Use the centre of the lake for speedier activities.
